But the JLA at least has never been particularly American in scope, which is why the later incarnations were just the Justice League. From their very first adventures they were fighting interplanetary invaders and time travelers bent on world domination. That is, they represent names that definitely don’t match the scope.

It's only redundant if you say the Beacon City Beacons rather than just the Beacons of Hope. The Justice Society of AMERICA and Justice League of AMERICA both have their areas in the name, but most groups don't have a fixed jurisdiction, so I'm not sure that the lack of precedents is important. .-= Russell´s last blog ..Unleash the gnomes of war =-.

I don’t know…the Beacon City Beacons of Hope is maybe a little too Department of Redundancy Department. Plus it’s not actually that typical for supergroups to have names tied that strongly to their base of operations. The only ones I can think of are junior branches of a more famous group, like Justice League: Europe, Titans West, or The Great Lakes Avengers.
