My primary source of (vicarious) mayhem is games: RPGs and video games, rather than, say, football. I suppose that I ought to say something about the social effects of violence in games, since many people worry about it. I don't believe that violence in movies and video games causes violence in the streets any more than comedy in movies causes comedy in the streets; most people have no trouble whatsoever in distinguishing between real and imaginary--and those that do would do so regardless. It's not like this generation invented violence, or are even the foremost practitioners of it in history. (Violent crime has actually been more-or-less steadily declining in the past few decades, although you'd never know it from the headlines and broadcast news. "When it bleeds, it leads" has never been more true, but that's a rant for another time.)
